Child Protection Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Our Commitment
Our organisation is committed to child protection and complies with the Vulnerable Children Act 2014, as well as any relevant contracting, funding, or licensing requirements.
This policy aligns with Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard NZS 8134:2021 Section 1.5.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees and contractors of the organisation. Where there is service-specific information, it will be clearly identified as relevant only to that particular service.
Key Principles
Commitment to Prevention
A strong commitment is placed on maintaining and enhancing employee awareness of how to prevent, identify, and respond to abuse through appropriate training.
Definition of Child
According to the Vulnerable Children Act 2014, a child is defined as someone who is under the age of 18 years and is not married or in a civil union.
Child Abuse Definition
Child abuse is the harming (whether physically, emotionally, or sexually) of a child. Our organisation maintains zero tolerance for any form of child abuse and has clear procedures in place for identifying, reporting, and responding to concerns.
Reporting Concerns
All employees and contractors have a responsibility to report any suspected child abuse or neglect. Concerns should be reported immediately to management and, if appropriate, to the relevant authorities.
