Daily Pay: How We Built It

Work today, get paid tomorrow. That's Daily Pay — and here's the story behind it.

The challenge

At Medcall, we're always looking for ways to make life easier for our people. So when our CEO David spotted a growing trend in daily pay options overseas, we asked ourselves a simple question: why shouldn't our staff have this too?

It started with a conversation

Our General Manager Jessie surveyed 200 of our team. The response was clear — 75% said they'd use a daily pay option. That was all the signal we needed.

Building it

We partnered with BeWeb to develop a fully automated system. The timing worked in our favour — New Zealand had just introduced seven-day banking, which meant Daily Pay could genuinely be daily, including weekends and public holidays.

It wasn't straightforward. The eligibility criteria took several rounds of adjustment to get right — we needed a system that was both accessible and secure. But within six months of the initial idea, Daily Pay was live.

What our staff say

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. In a follow-up survey, 88% of respondents said they'd recommend Daily Pay to other staff, and 63% reported it had a positive impact on their motivation and performance.

"Daily Pay is ideal for me. I use this job as a top-up alongside my other work — it's great for groceries, paying an urgent bill, or anything that pops up."

A first for New Zealand

To our knowledge, no other staffing company in New Zealand offers a benefit like this. We're proud of that. Daily Pay isn't just a payroll feature — it's a reflection of how we think about our people: if we can make something easier, we should.
